The governing and the authorized body of Lucknow metro is LMRC (Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation Limited) which is responsible for constructing and operating this heavy rapid transit system. The construction work of Lucknow metro is in progress which is the most expensive metro system of the country and sustains the costing of 12500 crore (1 billion US dollar) of phase-1.
According to the LMRC, construction work of phase-1 will end up in 2018 and construction of phase-2 will start then. Lucknow is the capital of Uttar Pradesh which also the largest city of north after Delhi which sustains the urban population over 5 million. Lucknow Metro construction started in two phases: first starts from Amausi to Munshi Pulia and next will start from Vasant Kunj to Charbagh railway System. Both these corridors and phases are North-South and East-West corridors which will intersect at Charbagh. An augmentation line from Indira Nagar – Gomti Nagar – Polytechnic Crossing will stretch it to Patrakarpuram, Gomti Nagar. The distinction between landing time of trains at every station is relied upon to be 7 minutes. This would be diminished to 5 minutes and after that to 3 minutes in phases. The work would be done by 2017 of the first stage. At first, the Lucknow Metro Rail Project was wanted to incorporate two corridors: North-South and East-West; and the Gomti Nagar join. The development expense was assessed at Rs74.13 billion for North-South corridor, Rs48.79 billion for East-West corridor and Rs4.95 billion for Gomti Nagar link.

For consistent execution of the Project, a SPV as an organization known as Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation Limited has been joined by the Government of Uttar Pradesh.
